I'm an artist working in video and painting. I’m interested in depictions of the climate crisis in terms of apocalypse, both biblical and science fiction, to a point where it is fetishized, aestheticized, even perversely enjoyable. This is interesting to me from a psychoanalytic perspective -- how something unpleasant can be enjoyable, and also in exploration of crises and accidents as ruptures of the Real. It’s also interesting to me from a surrealist point of view – a lot of my work is grounded in Surrealist imagery and sensibilities, and here I’m interested in how an end of the world, distorted weather conditions, fires, accidents possess an extraordinary, super-real quality. And thirdly I am also interested in this from a critical perspective – how an eschatological rhetoric is actually a deterrent to action, as a more enjoyable way to deal with crisis.
